The guys in the video used a van so that they could sit unobserved on a street while seeking a hotspot for WiFi. They had a laptop that was wireless enabled and software they had gotten easily off the internet.

The advice I would take and what they said at the end of the video was; to enable WPA and MAC address filtering.

Construction and the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC)

The following chart illustrates how the (SDLC) relates to the activities involved in the construction of a house.

Planning- In this phase; the drawing up of blueprints, and deciding on the functionality of the house, and project scope for the new owners, is the agenda.

Analysis- Working out the details of how everything is going to work together.

Design- Acquiring and assembling resources in relation to time and materials.

Development- This is where the actual construction takes place.

Testing- Verifying that your system works. Inspectors look at roof supports, electrical wiring, and plumbing for code specifications that indicate the required strength needed for the new house.

Maintenance- This is fixing problems as they arise, such as scraping peeling paint and repainting, or repairing wind or rain damage, leaking pipes, or stopped up drains.

Websites I Like, Websites I Don’t Like aka: Homework#5

I love Tiger Direct!
Tiger Direct is an online source for all your electronic needs. You can research everything from cameras, to top end gaming computers. When you need information on a product, you can get close up photos, generic specifications, or detailed specifications that most don’t understand. There are even customer reviews for those who have purchased this product and are willing to give a review. The site even asks for your input as to whether those reviews were helpful. There are several ways to access the information you are looking for; drop down boxes on the menu, sorters on the left-hand side that can narrow your search, and a nifty keyword search box if all else fails. The site itself is pleasant enough with thumbprint photos for product comparison. Shopping and check-out are as simple as any that I have seen. I am on their mailing list and get sales info in my email account. More often than not, I view the item they have placed in my mail for more detail. This occurs about once a week. I have done several transactions with Tiger Direct and am very happy with the service.

The “Arrive Alive Driving Academy” I don't hate them... I just wish they would leave!
This sight could entertain your kids for hours…. It’s better than television! The “Arrive Alive Driving Academy” website will either make you laugh or find the nearest porthole. It is a garish, crowded site that seems to be nothing more than a billboard for other driving-related services.
The user is in a virtual “Where’s Waldo” search for information. If you can find it, click on View the class schedule.
WARNING: if you are epileptic you may want to pass on viewing this site. They do have their phone number displayed prominently and I am assuming that most people would take that down and call rather than glean pertinent information from this eyesore. Needless to say, I would never do business with this company merely because the site is annoying. While I realize that advertising is a necessity for some sites to remain online, there are sites that accomplish this everyday…tastefully. In conclusion: if you “arrived alive” after viewing this site, it’s a miracle.

Here’s another terrible website that is rumored to be quite expensive!

Discussion with a chatterbot...

I recognize the assignment was totally different from what I am about to present; please forgive me for taking license with my instructions, I meant no disrespect.
–Sandy

In my search for “chatterbots” I came across these conversations that computers from Stanford had with their creators and interestingly enough…..with each other. There is a therapist named Liza, a paranoid “youth”, named Parry, and Racter… the psycho.

Our assignment was to talk to a chatterbot and judge whether they could fool a human into thinking that they were human. Maybe this speaks to the quality of my friends, (lol) but these computers have pulled it off quite nicely. I was impressed. Their conversations were not coerced and were sometimes spontaneous in their choice of conversant as well as subject. They learned from those they “spoke” with and made many assumptions about those people that were very often correct.

Finally, this is what is the most interesting of all of the information, thus far. When were these computers and their programs made? What would your guess be? Trying to better understand and study the human psyche and to emulate them with computers…these programs were written in the 60’s.

The following is poetry written by Racter-

Slowly I dream of flying. I observe turnpikes and streets
studded with bushes. Coldly my soaring widens my awareness.
To guide myself I determinedly start to kill my pleasure
during the time that hours and milliseconds pass away. Aid me in this
and soaring is formidable, do not and singing is unhinged.

Side and tumble and fall among
The dead. Here and there
Will be found a utensil.

Bill sings to Sarah. Sarah sings to Bill. Perhaps they
will do other dangerous things together. They may eat lamb or stroke
each other. They may chant of their difficulties and their
happiness. They have love but they also have typewriters.
That is interesting.
-Racter

Customer Relationship Management AKA HW03

Alaska Airlines
This company had years of data and was in need of an organizational overhaul. Once they had an outside firm, (Siebel), organized that data and applied it where it was needed; they were able to better understand their customer’s buying habits and anticipate “booms’ and lulls that come naturally to any business, but specifically to one so seasonal.

Virgin Mobile
This company emerged in 2002 well after the cell phone big-hitters were on the scene. They used Sprints telecommunications capacity and offered a pay-as-you-go plan. Interestingly enough they don’t have long-term agreements that lock the customer in, but focus on customer service and the quality of devices to hold their advantage. In the interim they have received numerous awards and acknowledged as one of the main contenders in the increasingly tough cell phone industry.

Enterprise Car Rental
Enterprise realized that many customers needing a rental car may have to incur further expense to travel to pick their vehicle up. With this in mind they have evolved to be known as the rental car service who will deliver. This company holds to a tough regimen of customer service calls to evaluate service and each branch is evaluated on the percentage of positive responses…. Enterprise’s idea of a positive response is “completely satisfied”.

"Take care of your customers and employees first, and profits will follow." (Jack Taylor, founder of Enterprise Rent-a-Car)
