I recognize the assignment was totally different from what I am about to present; please forgive me for taking license with my instructions, I meant no disrespect.

In my search for “chatterbots” I came across these conversations that computers from Stanford had with their creators and interestingly enough…..with each other. There is a therapist named Liza, a paranoid “youth”, named Parry, and Racter… the psycho.
Our assignment was to talk to a chatterbot and judge whether they could fool a human into thinking that they were human. Maybe this speaks to the quality of my friends, (lol) but these computers have pulled it off quite nicely. I was impressed. Their conversations were not coerced and were sometimes spontaneous in their choice of conversant as well as subject. They learned from those they “spoke” with and made many assumptions about those people that were very often correct.
Finally, this is what is the most interesting of all of the information, thus far. When were these computers and their programs made? What would your guess be? Trying to better understand and study the human psyche and to emulate them with computers…these programs were written in the 60’s.
The following is poetry written by Racter-
Slowly I dream of flying. I observe turnpikes and streets
studded with bushes. Coldly my soaring widens my awareness.
To guide myself I determinedly start to kill my pleasure
during the time that hours and milliseconds pass away. Aid me in this
and soaring is formidable, do not and singing is unhinged.
Side and tumble and fall among
The dead. Here and there
Will be found a utensil.
Bill sings to Sarah. Sarah sings to Bill. Perhaps they
will do other dangerous things together. They may eat lamb or stroke
each other. They may chant of their difficulties and their
happiness. They have love but they also have typewriters.
That is interesting.
-Racter

The whole chatterbot thing to me is quite ridiculous. I don't really see the point in talking to something thats been programmed to respond. I get the whole "AI" thing, but i mean really why not just call a real human? Unless of course you don't have friends...then its understandable...
Perspicacity means knowledge and clearly all of out bots had no real experience. i could sense that when you talked with yours, you could tell right away that it had no depth or soul with which to make a conversation the least bit entertain or interesting
